To date, there remains a large gap between basic and applied science in understanding the nature and treatment of psychological disorders. To help bridge this gap as well as to promote inclusivity in the field of translational neuroscience, I have been involved in several outreach efforts. In 2020, I joined the the Association for Behavioral and Cognitive Therapies (ABCT)’s Neurocognitive Therapies and Translational Research (NTTR) special interest group (SIG) as a student member. During my time as a student member in ABCT’s NTTR SIG, I contributed to a special issue in the Behavior Therapist on neurocognitive therapies, translational research, and diversity, equity, and inclusion. Then, in 2022, I was elected to join the executive committee of the NTTR SIG as their student representative. My main responsibility in this role is coordinating an annual mentorship program that aims to connect individuals at various career stages and from a wide range of backgrounds with common research interests.
